Application software migrations are defined as moving from one release level to the next within the same software.  Application software conversions are defined as moving from one vendor's package or custom designed application to a different vendor's package or custom designed application.  While a migration is theoretically less complex than a conversion, each has their own set of challenges.

Migrations and conversions entail inherent risk and therefore need to be meticulously planned and managed as a formal project.  The potential impact to the organization can range from moderate inconvenience with rollback to the pre-change state, to a business threatening event depending on the organization, the application, its criticality to the functioning of the business, the experience of the project team, the degree of pre-implementation planning, and many other variables.  Decisions will need to be made regarding the methodology to be used, for example a phased approach versus a "big bang" approach to the task.

The staff of Insologies have performed numerous migrations and conversions, and have experience in both phased implementation approaches as well as "big bang" approaches.    Insologies follows a strict change management methodology, as well as a formal project management methodology.  Insologies can bring their years of experience to the table and provide the needed discipline and expertise to ensure the success of your migration or conversion project.
